Afloat in the Darkest Sea

They say courage is not a lack of fear
But determination in its grim face,
And it challenges me to turn back from here
“Refuse to march on to the holy place.”
If this is true, then I may have courage.
After all, I have no lack of terror.
“Get up in the morning”s a desperate old adage.
I rise in joy amid the ascending roar,
Drowning in the ocean of no-hope-tar
I gasp for breath and sob the chokes anew,
But when I learn to swim now care how far
Perhaps in that day I will find my you.
So I’ll stop asking you to take my sea,
But give to me my breathing liberty.
